History
ProjectLounge was founded in 2001 by Kim Dowds and is a privately-held corporation. It was one of the first companies In the USA to provide IBM/Lotus QuickPlace as a hosted service.
While working in the construction industry, Kim recognized a need for a mechanism that would help her team to streamline the coordination of each project, including their communication and collaboration with their clients, suppliers and contractors. Kim's firm needed a service that
- could be implemented quickly as soon as a project was created,
- would be affordable,
- would not require hiring IT staff or the purchase of hardware,
- would work for clients, contractors and suppliers working outside the firm's firewalls.
Over the last few years, Kim and her team have built ProjectLounge into a multi-national company serving clients from a diverse range of industries and professions located around the globe. ProjectLounge's success stems from a commitment to serve clients that have similar needs to Kim's construction industry firm by providing an accessible, reliable and flexible collaboration solution. ProjectLounge clients can create online collaboration portals that incorporate all the features and functionality of IBM/Lotus QuickPlace software with the added benefits of a hosted service.
This year has seen ProjectLounge expand into the Open Source arena with Ruby on Rails technology. Ian Connor and his team have developed a free online collaboration service, PLlite, enabling small teams to work together in one centrally located web space. It was successfully launched in May 2006 at Internet World in the UK.
ProjectLounge has offices in USA, Australia and in 2006 opened a third office in central London, UK. With a state of the art server facility in the UK, ProjectLounge can now offer exceptional service to new clients in Europe and Great Britain, as it has in the USA and Australia over the past five years.
